Where children and families are encouraged to play, learn, and grow.

At Pend Oreille Family Cooperative we are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) preschool proudly serving families in Old Town, Idaho; Priest River, Idaho; Newport, Washington and the greater Pend Oreille County community.

Our program is led by two dedicated teachers who provide a nurturing, play-based learning environment for young children.

We offer a drop-off preschool option for potty-trained children, as well as a unique family day cooperative program where parents and caregivers actively participate alongside their little learners. Our mission is to support early childhood development while fostering strong connections between children, families, and the community—creating a foundation for lifelong learning in a warm and supportive setting.

Fenced In Outdoor playground

A beautiful grassy playground stretches out inside a secure, fenced space, creating a safe and welcoming place for children to explore and play. The soft green lawn is dotted with colorful outdoor toys, chalk for creative drawings, sturdy trikes for little riders, and a charming playhouse called SCARLETT’S CAFE that spark imagination.

The table has containers of small objects, a water jug, and a red cup. The background includes a whiteboard, bookshelf, colorful carpet squares, and classroom decorations.

Daily Craft and Reading Time

In a preschool classroom, craft time and reading time create a perfect balance of creativity and calm. During craft time, children eagerly gather around tables filled with paper, glue, paint, and crayons, exploring their imaginations while building fine motor skills and confidence. Laughter and conversation flow as they proudly create their own unique masterpieces. When it’s time to transition to reading, the room softens into a quiet, cozy space where children sit together to listen to stories. With wide eyes and curious minds, they follow along as teachers bring books to life, helping build language skills, focus, and a lifelong love of reading.

STEM Activities

STEM activities in a preschool introduce young children to the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and math through hands-on exploration and play. Whether they are building towers with blocks, experimenting with water and simple tools, or sorting and counting colorful objects, children learn to ask questions, solve problems, and think creatively. These activities encourage curiosity and confidence as children test ideas, make discoveries, and work together. In a fun and supportive environment, STEM learning helps lay the foundation for critical thinking and a lifelong love of learning.

❊ Testimonials

Loved by TOTS, Trusted by Parents.

Seriously! But don’t take our word for it, here are some things people have to say about us.

Our daughter has been able to come out of her shell, talk to teachers, and play with new friends. We are so grateful to the teachers and volunteers for making the co-op inviting and educational!

My Children were in Co-Op from 2022 to 2026, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made for my children. My children learned so many social, fine motor, and coping skills in the loving and caring environment that Co-Op provided all those years. This place has been my home away from home for my family. I hope it will be yours too!

Finding a place where my 3 year old felt comfortable was so important to me, especially since she’d never been away from me before. The first time we stepped into Co-Op, we left and she said, “Mom, this is the perfect school for me!” The teachers are so kind, engaging, and do an amazing job balancing structure and fun. I highly recommend Co-Op for anyone looking for socialization and learning for their preschooler! I also love that parents can be as involved as they want and really have a voice.
